Richmond Civil Works is a long established mainstay of the Adelaide construction community.
We started out as Richmond Demolition, a small house demolition contractor in 1991. Since then we’ve grown to become one of the best known civil and demolition firms in the region.
Thanks to Jack Mouhalos, our founder’s reputation for safety and dependability, we’re proud to be first on site for some of South Australia’s most high profile construction projects. In the mid-1990s Jack expanded to open a salvage yard in Richmond. By 2001 he was well established as a demolition contractor with many of South Australia’s commercial and domestic builders. With a fleet of trucks, equipment and a skilled workforce already on hand, the progression from demolition to civil and earthworks was quite natural.
For clients it’s meant one less contractor to deal with, fewer coordination headaches, as well as time and cost savings.
Since 2001, civil and earthworks have overtaken demolition as our primary activity, hence the name change to Richmond Civil Works.
Our Operational Team
Besides sub-contractors, we now have a permanent full time staff of more than 20, including engineers, estimators, project managers and administration staff. Even after a generation of solid growth, we remain a family owned and operated company with all members of Jack Mouhalos’s immediate family involved with the operations daily.
To our clients, that means dealing with a company offering unusually strong lines of communication. It also means dealing with staff who are committed to building lasting relationships and ensuring your satisfaction. Why? Because they’re here to stay.
Clients often tell us they like the fact that our project managers are also our estimators. Dealing with one person rather than several makes for much better continuity throughout the project.
Our Management Team
Richmond Civil Works, formerly known as Richmond Demolition and Salvage, was founded in 1991 by Jack Mouhalos. An oil pipeline constructor by trade and with a vaulting ambition and an eagerness to learn, Jack established a presence in the South Australian construction industry. After 10 years of performing a wide and varied range of domestic and commercial demolition contracts, Jack took the next step of adding earthworks to the company’s list of services. This sector of business soon outgrew the demolition works and as a result the company was rebranded to better reflect its core business activities.
Jack’s reputation as a professional and highly-skilled and respected demolition and earthworks contractor has grown with the business. Jack’s philosophy in business is to provide his clients with a service based on quality, integrity and excellence.
Emmanuel commenced at Richmond Civil Works in 2003. Although he was only 15 years of age at the time Emmanuel had already learned to operate an excavator at the family depot a number of years before formally commencing as an employee of the company.
Emmanuel worked alongside Jack for 14 years on both civil and demolition sites. It was here that he built up his knowledge and experience in operating plant and equipment and how to tackle a job in the most efficient and safe way. He also learned the art of managing a team of workers operating on highly stressful and hazardous projects.
With 11 years of experience as a Leading Hand, and with increasing demands on Jack to manage the company away from site, it was only natural that Emmanuel be appointed as Works Superintendent for Richmond Civil Works in 2017.
Some key projects supervised by Emmanuel include Port Augusta Prison, SACA Oval reclamation and the St Clair Avenue extension.
